Rick Hoberg: The Strangers #21 (1995)
on Thursday, December 15, 2011 at 06:00I kind of enjoyed Malibu Comics’ Ultraverse line back in the 90′s, with The Strangers being just one of the varied titles available in this tightly knit continuity. As the story goes, 59 people were on a cable car when it was hit by an energy beam that would eventually come to be known at the “Jumpstart”. The survivors all gain a variety of super powers, and six of them, together with an ethereal woman from a hidden civilization, banded together to form the Strangers.
Issue 21 scripted by Steve Englehart with pencils from Paul Abrams and inks from Thomas Florimonte saw the unfortunate former pleasure android, now with the ability to generate electricity and a name change from Candy to Electrocute, ripped asunder as a grenade detonated under her car.
Of course, to sell comics one needs a great cover, and so enter the award winning Rick Hoberg who came up with this great piece of art depicting a rather stricken and lifeless Candy!
