If Marvel wants guaranteed sales, then they simply chuck Wolverine into the mix, an approach that always seems to pay off considering the fact that he is by far the world’s favourite claw-wielding, mutant.
The Marvel Anime project seeks to take some of Marvel Entertainment’s hottest properties and throw them into the world of Japanese animation, combining some of the best comic book characters with the brightest anime directors, all brought to life by one of the finest anime studios ever to have existed, Madhouse.
Following the successful 12 part Iron Man anime foray, Wolverine jumps into the fray, radically redesigned to better suit Japanese audiences, but still wielding those fearsome adamantium claws and no nonsense attitude. Also a 12 part series, Wolverine is directed by Hiroshi Aoyama and tells the story of Logan’s ex-girlfriend, Mariko Yashida, who was taken from him well over a year ago in mysterious circumstances, but who has now been tracked down to Tokyo with her Yakuza crime boss (and katana-wielding) father Shingen.
Slated to be forced into marriage to a dangerous man of power hailing from Madripoor, and current supplier of weapons to AIM, it isn’t that much of a surprise to find Logan immediately heading back to Japan and straight into conflict with some very powerful men!
